Cash boost for local charity

The CITHRAH Foundation, which offers support to individuals following family breakdown or domestic abuse, welcomed DSD Minister Nelson McCausland to their West Street offices on Friday.

The organisation is a member of the Council for the Homeless NI, recipients of the overall award.

The funding - which has increased from last year’s total of £95,000 - will aid a number of accommodation, support and outreach providers from the voluntary, community, statutory and private sectors.

CITHRAH Foundation director Catherine Harper said: “We do get funding around this time every year and it is a great help in the run up to Christmas. It will help very much with our support services; we also operate a safe house in the Carrick area for those fleeing domestic abuse.”

Margaret Henry, deputy director of Council for the Homeless NI added: “In these times of cutbacks, austerity and increasing costs this money will enable agencies to provide homeless people with a sense of normality at Christmas time, going some way to ensure that their Christmas and New Year will be an enjoyable and positive one.”
