Castle Youth Club 'spruce up'

YOUNG people from Castle Youth Club have been rolling up their sleeves to help tidy up their community.

The 'spruce up' was organised by the Youth Club, supported by Castle Community Association, the Housing Executive and Ballymoney Borough Council.

Association Chairman, Dessie Hanna, was delighted that local young people turned out to take part in what proved to be not just a successful but also a fun event.

He said: "It was really great to see so many young people in this community willing to lend a helping hand to tidy up the area. With the support of the Council and Housing Executive we have been able to give our community a real 'spruce up' and we can be proud of the end result - a tidier environment which is of benefit to everyone in the Castle area. Although hard work was the order of the day, the community spirit that we have here was to the fore throughout.

"The Castle area was included last year in the second phase of the Housing Executive's Shared Neighbourhood Programme, funded by the International Fund for Ireland, and so we want to encourage participation and promote neighbourliness in our local community. Since then we have been working to develop and deliver projects for the benefit of everyone, and the 'spruce up' is a practical example of this."
