Castlerock gets ready to party!

CASTLEROCK is getting geared up to welcome the Olympic Torch.

And as well as holding celebrations for the arrival of the Torch into their village on Monday 4th June, the community of Castlerock is set to party the whole day and night when it also holds a live outdoor broadcast of the Queen’s Jubilee concert from Buckingham Palace on the same evening.

At lunchtime, the “Party on the Prom” kicks off from 1pm where an outdoor street party will be held on the Promenade, part of the torch route. Tables will be available and families and groups are invited to bring along a picnic and to decorate their table with prizes being offered for the best decorated tables.

There will be live music, children’s entertainment, face painting and Olympic themed goodies for sale. Prizes will also be awarded for “Olympics around the World” themed fancy dress for children, adults and families. The party will be in full swing when the torch arrives in the village at 2:45pm.

In the evening, the “Ball by the Hall” will be held at the playing fields beside the Peter Thompson Hall where the Jubilee Concert from Buckingham Palace will be broadcast live on a big screen.

People are encouraged to bring their camp chairs and blankets and relax in the heart of the village and enjoy the show. Refreshments available will include barbeque, hog roast, beer tent and gourmet coffee and food. There will be entertainment for children and families around the field together with demonstrations from local groups. Entrance to the fields is free and the concert begins from 6:30 pm.

The organisers would like to express their appreciation to all who contributed towards the events including Coleraine Borough Council, Crusoe’s Coffee Shop, Exorna Spar, O’Neill’s Caravan Park, Billy Nutt Travel, CP Hire and Hutchinson’s Tiles.
