Castlerock sailor qualifies as Navy physical trainer


29-year-old Luke Steele has just passed a gruelling six-month course to qualify as a Royal Navy Leading Physical Trainer.
The course at HMS Temeraire – the RN’s School of Physical Training in Portsmouth - included circuit and weight training, sport science, strength and conditioning, diet and nutrition and sports administration.

Hide AdHe will soon take up his post as physical trainer at the HMS Collingwood shore base in Fareham, Hampshire, helping to keep the 2,000 sailors there fully fit.
Leading Physical Trainer Steele joined the Navy in 2007 and is a former pupil of Coleraine Boys’ Secondary School.
His career includes serving as a logistician on the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious.
He said: “The course has been a long, hard journey but the achievement at the end has made it all worth it. I have developed my character and I’m looking forward to my new career.”
