Cathal lands 14lb salmon on Moyola River

IT is now successive Moyola Angling Club wins for Philip Maguire who secured first place in the annual Jack Lennox Cup competition.

Again lure fishing, this takes the victor hot on the heels of the leaders in the league table.In second place was Tommy McGrath on the fly,and just one ounce behind in third , and only after a triple recount, came Pat Harkin.

It was good to see a fine turnout of junior members in this event and the best of these proved to be Eimear McClenaghan, who managed to get the better of her father,Wesley, on this particular occasion!

The league table now sees Tommy McGrath move to the top on 40pts. Other leading placings are – Ruth Arrell, Stanley Aspinall and Pat Harkin, 36pts; Barry Diamond, 33pts; Philip Maguire, 30pt ;Wesley McClenaghan and Brian Bigmore, 28pts.

Well done to the Moyola youth team who took part in the Loughstyle Under 19s Championships held by the Ulster Angling Council at Loughmacrory.These were John Mckay, Matthew Doyle and Joseph Spiers. Result here was - 1st, Francis Rafferty, 6pts; 2nd, Darren Cunningham, 7pts; 3rd, Simon Harkness,9pts; 4th, Conor McKeever, 9pts ; 5th,John McKay (Moyola), 17pts; 6th, Cian Ward,18pts; 7th, Mathew Doyle (Moyola), 19pts ; 8th, Fearghail Armstronge, 22pts; 9th, Charlie McDonagh, 22pts; 10th,Brice Ashton, 24pts ; 11th,Jospeh Spiers (Moyola). Reserve, 25pts.Longest fish – Francis Rafferty.

Congratulations to Cathal Cleary who caught and instantly returned a splendid 14lb salmon at Castledawson. Fellow members were delighted to see such a fine fish in the Moyola River.Next club competition is for the TSB Challenge Cup.This will be fished for on Monday, July 15, starting 7pm at Moyola Bridge.
