Cattle said to be ‘well’ after Larne farm slurry pit ordeal
FOUR cattle were hauled out of a slurry pit at a Larne farm on Tuesday during a six-hour rescue operation.
The NI Fire and Rescue Service received a call that the animals had fallen into the pit at Ballysnod Road about 8.40am. Four fire appliances, three specialist rescue teams and an animal rescue team attended the scene.
Fire crews, using breathing apparatus and gas monitors, set about ventilating and draining the pit. Animal rescue harnesses were then used to lift the cattle to safety.
A spokeswoman from NIFRS told the Times that a vet inspected the animals following their ordeal and “found them to be well”.
The incident ended just after 2.40pm.
