Caught twice with no insurance

Andrew Trevor Patterson (20), Edenderry Road, was banned for six months last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

He was also fined £400 for not having insurance and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy. For not having a licence he was fined £50 and he was also fined £50 for taking a car without the consent of the owner.

The court heard that at 1.45am on February 18 this year Patterson was seen driving on the Circular Road, Banbridge.

Police asked him to produce his licence and insurance but he failed to do so.

When they spoke to him at a later date he said it was his mother’s vehicle and she had not given him permission to take it.

A barrister representing the defendant said he was rated as a medium risk of re-offending and he was engaging with probation.

Deputy District Judge Chris Holmes pointed out that Patterson had been convicted of no insurance on December 16 last year and eight weeks later he did it again.

He added that it was a complete disregard for the rules by someone who had not learned his lesson.
