The building which was started some time ago, is to be completed by 2018, “ according to a report given to councillors last week.

Members attending last Tuesday night’s Corporate Policy and Resources committee were told about the property, and asked to give the developer access to council land to allow for a gate leading on to the East Strand carpark to the back of the site.

Members were told that the ‘completion of the property would greatly enhance this area of Portrush’, and that the developer was erecting a fence at the site, at his own expense, between council playing fields and boundaries at Royal Portrush.

Council officer Maura Quinn told members that the gate way would allow the residents access on to the East Strand car park, via a keypad gate.

DUP cllr George Duddy questioned the need for access.

He pointed out that in other cases, a gate had turned into a road way, and that the previous Coleraine Borough Council, had ‘their fingers burned before’ with similar requests.

SDLP cllr Stephanie Quigley agreed: “This entrance has a significant value, It will take residents right on to the beach. We need to investigate this further.”

Ms Quinn told members that these issues would be investigated further. Members agreed in principal to the developer’s request.
