Causeway Tram rolls again at Ballywillan

IT IS 65 years since the Giant’s Causeway Tram last rattled its way between Portrush and the world-famous geological wonder, but for members of Ballywillan Men’s Fellowship the pioneering carriages rolled again for a nostalgic hour last Thursday.

Steering members through the fascinating story of the Giant’s Causeway, Portrush and Bush Valley Railway and Tramway Company Limited was Portrush historian John Moore who enlivened his talk with an ingeniously designed power-point presentation.

This included a typical tram journey along the coastal track, based on contemporary photographs. Vividly brought to life was the experience enjoyed by yesterday’s day trippers as they sat in open carriages which meandered along the cliff edge with the sea a mere 60 and 70 feet below them!

The talks continues this Thursday (9 October) when Myrtle McQuiston will be speaking on the University of Life and the following week (16 October) Emma Thorpe will be guest when the subject will be “NI Screens”. The following Thursday has been reserved for one of the Fellowship’s regular lunch meetings.
