Caw residents rewarded with Best Kept title

The Waterside location picked up the Ellen McGowan Trophy at the 2016 Open + Direct Best Kept City, Town, Village & Housing Awards.

The awards recognise those who have demonstrated a commitment to bettering their surroundings, be it through attractive foliage, creative features or simply maintaining a clean and tidy environment.

Speaking at the event, David Small, CEO, Northern Ireland Environment Agency, said: “It is wonderful to see so many of our communities participating in the Best Kept Towns Awards.

“I would like to congratulate all of today’s winners and to acknowledge the hard work undertaken by the individual committees across the province.”

Caw was one of two successes for Londonderry with the Best Kept City title clinched too for the fresh, clean, and vibrant atmosphere. The roundabouts were also praised for being maintained beautifully with colourful displays of flowers.

Doreen Muskett MBE, President, NIAC, commented: “Every year it is a pleasure to reward those who have taken great pride in maintaining or creating beautiful settings. Entries for 2016 were of a high standard and judges had great difficulty in selecting the eventual winners.

“I would like to congratulate not only everyone who took home a ‘Best Kept’ accolade at this year’s ceremony, but also everyone who entered. These awards promote a healthy, creative living environment and it is fantastic to see so many local areas putting the effort into bettering their own.”
