CCEA improves exam and results process

A-Level students are set to get their results on August 19, while GCSE students should have theirs on August 24.

Meanwhile, the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) has been working to make the whole examination and results process more efficient and user friendly.

Current initiatives include the use of online exams, onscreen marking and the facility for students to receive their results online.

Anne Marie Duffy, Director of Qualifications at CCEA believes that continuous modernisation is essential.

“Over the past year CCEA has been working on a range of projects which will provide a more efficient and user friendly service for students and schools,” she said.

“This year over 10,000 A Level students can receive their results using online technology. This has both environmental and cost saving benefits through the reduction of paper-based processes and will allow candidates to access their results from anywhere. This will help reduce the impact on family holidays and the ever-popular gap year trips.

“We will also be providing more information than ever before to help staff in schools to analyse the performance of their students much more easily.

“This year we have scanned more than 50,000 scripts allowing more than 180 examiners to mark them online using onscreen technology. This speeds up the process of marking such a huge number of scripts whilst ensuring the highest levels of security and quality control.

“I believe that these modernisation initiatives are critical if we are to continue to provide our schools and students with the best possible levels of service and support.”

The CCEA is a unique educational body in the UK, bringing together the three areas of curriculum, examinations and assessment.
