Celebrated 50 years in business

A READER has supplied information about a photograph in 'Way Back When' in last week's 'Mail'.

The people in the photograph were workers from Joe Twyble’s factory in William Street, which made hankies, on an outing to celebrate the firm’s 50th year in business.

Mr and Mrs Twyble are pictured seated in the front row while the other man in the front row - with a flower in his buttonhole - is manager David Sands.

In the back row, fourth from the right, is Ivor Douglas who went on to become a Pastor in the Apostolic Church.

Also in the picture, sixth from right in the back row, is Muriel Forsythe, nee Castles, who worked in the office.

The photograph was taken in a hotel in Portrush. The staff had been taken there by bus and enjoyed meals at lunch-time and tea-time before returning home.

It is thought the photograph was taken in the early sixties.
