Celebrating 20 years at Sprucefield

McDonald’s in Sprucefield celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special event at the restaurant to mark the occasion.

Over the last 20 years the restaurant, owned by franchisee John McCollum, has doubled the number of local staff it employs and has undergone significant investment to increase capacity and create a fresh new look.

In 1993, the restaurant employed 75 local people – that figure now stands at over 150. In 2012, it opened Northern Ireland’s first ever Dual Drive Thru and in the same year invested £750,000 as part of the McDonald’s re-imaging programme.

Over 100 guests attended the celebratory event, including the Mayor of Lisburn Margaret Tolerton, Jeffrey Donaldson MP andf Alderman Allan Ewart.

A number of local schools and sports clubs also attended the event, including Lisburn United FC, Beechlawn School, Parkview Special School, Central Primary School, St Joseph’s Primary School and St Aloysius Primary School.

Franchisee John said: “The people of Lisburn have been incredibly generous in supporting the restaurant over the last 20 years and I wanted to say thank you by organising today’s special event.

“I’m delighted to have played a part in the development of Sprucefield over the last 20 years by creating jobs for local people through continued investment in the business.

“From a personal perspective, I’ve enjoyed my 20 years here in Sprucefield.”
