Celebrating sterling efforts of local Neighbourhood Watches

Craigavon’s 8th annual Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) event was held recently at Craigavon Civic Centre to thank all coordinators for helping to keep their areas of the borough safe.

It was also the official launch of the first ever Neighbourhood Watch DVD which explains how you can set up a scheme and the benefits of it.

Over 40 people attended and enjoyed dinner, a detailed presentation from Area Commander Chief Inspector Paul Reid on crime related statistics in Craigavon as well as a presentation on ‘Guardianship’ and a crime prevention quiz plus the opportunity to network with PSNI Officers and other coordinators.

Neighbourhood Watch continues to grow rapidly within Northern Ireland with over 53,000 households involved in nearly 830 schemes.

In Craigavon, there are currently 50 accredited schemes and a number of other areas at various stages of accreditation.

“This event was a fantastic success and was a wonderful opportunity for Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators to get together and share experiences and ideas regarding their schemes,” commented Councillor Kenneth Twyble, Chair of the PCSP.

“By working together, neighbours and communities do a great job of tackling crime related problems and we look forward to seeing even more schemes being set up throughout the Borough.”

Chief Inspector Reid, added: “Neighbourhood Watch plays an integral role in keeping our communities safe. We highly value the contribution that NHW Co-ordinators make, particularly as this is a voluntary role.

“I would like to say thank you to every member of our Neighbourhood Watch Schemes. We will continue to work with you and drive these relationships forward, ensuring that all our neighbourhoods in Craigavon are safe places to work, live and visit.”
