Celebrating success at Cedar

OVER 60 people with disabilities were honoured by The Cedar Foundation at a special Celebration of Achievement event held in Ballymena on Monday 7th June.

The event acknowledged and applauded the achievements of those who were involved in training and employment programmes in the Foundation's Training and Brain Injury Services operating in the Northern Health and Social Care Trust area.

These Services aim to address the barriers which exist for disabled people in achieving their personal goals of education, training and employment. The services are funded under the Northern Ireland ESF Programme and the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.

Stephen Mathews, Chief Executive of The Cedar Foundation said: "Today we are highlighting the achievements of 60 people with disabilities who have been supported to obtain education and training, voluntary work and employment over the last year. Recognised qualifications obtained range from pre-vocational and essential skills through to third level qualifications."

Speaking to the award winners at the event, Chief Executive of the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, Colm Donaghy, said: "I am honoured to be here today to present these certificates to you, the users of the service provided by The Cedar Foundation. I am particularly pleased that your families and friends could be here to recognise your achievements. Cedar has an excellent track record in working with people with disabilities in the Northern area for more than 20 years. Congratulations to each of you on your achievement and thank you to Cedar for organising this event. I am delighted to be here to join in the celebration."

Awards for Exceptional Achievement were also presented by Mr Donaghy to four individuals who were selected following nominations from staff across the training programmes. The winners were; Stephanie Stewart (Community Award) and William Smylie (Challenge Award) both from Ballymoney, Philip McLernon (Employment Award) and Ian Young (Commitment Award).
