The programme provides early intervention for first time young parents and involves intensive home visiting from early pregnancy until the child reaches their second birthday.

Enrolment of young mums onto the programme began in September 2015 and there are now over 75 families benefiting from the programme, including 35 newborn babies.

“The Trust is committed to giving children and young people the best and more importantly the safest start in life,” a spokesperson said. “The Family Nurse Partnership Programme is about improving pregnancy outcomes, improving child health and development and transforming the life chances of some of our young people. Central to its success is building and developing a trusting, therapeutic relationship with the family and building on their motivation to want to do what is best for children, while optimising the family’s sense of self efficacy.
