Celebrating young enterprise

NORTHERN Ireland's budding young entrepreneurs celebrated their success at an event hosted by Craigavon Borough Council.

The regional winners of the Young Enterprise Northern Ireland awards attended the graduation event in the civic centre. At the ceremony Daniel Compston of ‘The Rainbow Company’ at Ceara School collected the Janet Innman Award for Outstanding Individual, supported by Moy Park, and presented by Noel Millar from the company.

Carol Fitzsimons, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise, said: “Entrepreneurship education is just as important as other vocational education subjects and should be recognised as a vital contribution to this region’s economic future. These awards play an important part in the development and recognition of our future business talent here in Northern Ireland.”

The awards, which are supported by the Department for Education, Royal Mail and University of Ulster Business School, are a culmination of a year long programme that encourages students to develop a business plan, set up their business, raise share capital, develop, produce and market their product or service and manage company accounts before liquidating the company at the end of the year.

“The students deserve a celebration after all the hard work they’ve put in over the school year,” said Carol.

“With support from the Department of Education, Young Enterprise Northern Ireland has helped these students develop the skills and attitudes necessary to start their own business and take ownership of their career path from an early age. We wanted to give them something to celebrate today.”
