Celebrations as Carrick College pupils secure university places

There was cause for celebration on the North Road on Thursday as Carrickfergus College pupils picked up their much anticipated results slips.

The percentage of pupils achieving three A Level grades at A* to E was up on last year’s 78 percent to an impressive 91 percent.

The school has also maintained its 100 percent pass rate for pupils achieving two or more A Level grades at A* to E.

Most pupils were accepted to their first preference courses and some pupils out-performed even their own expectations to come out with the top grades, said principal Hedley Webb.

“We are so pleased for the pupils who worked hard to achieve these outcomes and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours – be that higher education, further education or employment,” he added.

Some of the high achievers included Year 14 pupil Bethany Davidson, who gained an A* in Information Technology, a B in Health and Social Care and a B in Religious Studies, while Melissa Galbraith secured two As and a C.

Four of the top performing year 14 boys were Gareth Smith (AAB), Jamie Todd (ABB), Jordan Moore (BBC), and Daryl Clarke (ABB).

At AS Level, Year 13 pupil Amber Ferguson gained two As and a C grade, while Ellen-Jayne Hill secured two Bs and a C.
