Celebrations as St. Aloysius raises £6,250 during Lenten Appeal

THE St Aloysius School family have once again excelled themselves during their Lenten Appeal by this year raising over £6000 for their chosen charities.

Principal Mr Patsy McClean praised the efforts of staff, pupils, families and friends of the school in exceeding all expectations as a fantastic 6,250 was raised.

“Each year I am overwhelmed by the generosity of all those involved in our Lenten Appeal, but this year I have been astounded by the response of our whole school family” he said. “To raise over 6000 is a magnificent achievement and I am extremely proud of all involved for their commitment, determination and their bountiful generosity.”

From the Nursery children with their Smartie boxes packed with 20p pieces to the Primary Seven’s sponsored trek along the Lagan tow-path, every child in the school was involved.

A weekly Bun Sale not only put on the pounds, but it raised them as well. Sponsored silences flourished as teachers and staff were only too delighted to encourage such rare moments of peace and quiet. An exhibition and sale of Art, Easter Egg Raffles, Non-uniform days, Copper Hunts and even a sponsored ‘Homework for the Teacher’ had donations flooding in.

To mark Holy Week, the senior boys and girls in the school presented a sell-out evening performance of ‘Hosanna’ in the school’s Assembly Hall, with proceeds going to chosen charities.

Mr McClean added: “Raising over 6000, in these austere times of recession and the credit-crunch, is marvellous and I thank all our school family and friends for their generosity, kindness and thoughtfulness during Lent and throughout all the school year.”
