Celebrations at Meadow Bridge Primary

THIS year Meadow Bridge Primary School celebrate their 10th Anniversary year.

Each month there are different celebrations for the children, teachers and the local community. On September 10 they had a Decathlon day which tied in with their 10th year and the Olympic Games. As part of Meadow Bridge celebrations for October they held an Intergenerational Day, working alongside the Safe & Well Project Down and Lisburn Areas.

Older members of the local community, grannies and grandads of the children who attend the school and older friends were invited to the day, which began with assembly. Mrs Sandra Glover, Safe and Well Project Coordinator and Donal Fagan Volunteer Befriending Coordinator joined the assembly and spoke to the children about the aims and purpose of the project.

The Safe & Well Project Volunteer Befriending Scheme managed by Bryson Care is looking for volunteers to give their time to help older, more vulnerable people in our community who have very little support. These volunteers will assist an older person to access local activities/groups and connections with community transport.

The children then had to go away and design a poster which would encourage someone to become a ‘Befriending Volunteer’. The winning entry will then be used as a poster for the Safe & Well Project.

At 10am the visitors arrived and were greeted warmly by Mr Good, principal, and Mrs Dornan, school cook, with a cup of tea or coffee and a muffin. Mrs Glover spoke of the service she provides and asked for some volunteers.

A successful and enjoyable day was had by pupils, teachers and friends of Meadow Bridge Primary School. Mr Fagan and Mrs Glover were thrilled to receive some volunteers to help with the Befriending Service.
