Celebrity Chef Neven Maguire shares cookery secrets

The state-of-the-art training kitchens and restaurant at North West Regional College will welcome their most prestigious Masterchef yet, as Celebrity Chef Neven Maguire takes to the stage in an exclusive demonstration in the City of Culture.

The star of Home Chef on RTE, and head chef and restaurateur from the MacNean House and Restaurant in Co Cavan, is the latest leading chef to visit NWRC for its Masterchef series, now in its seventh year.

At the core of Neven’s philosophy is a dedication to using the finest locally sourced ingredients and this one off demonstration will see Neven create a range of exquisite dishes, availing of the wealth of exceptional produce from the North West, for the gathered audience.

Recipes that will be created by the celebrity chef on the day will also come from his latest series of Home Chef, currently in a new 10 week run on RTE. The programme was recently afforded the accolade of the most watched cookery show to ever appear on the station, further cementing Neven’s place as one of the leading chefs of his generation.

North West Regional College has developed a reputation for delivering excellence in Hospitality and Catering, and the Masterchef series has allowed students, local chefs and the public to learn from some of the province’s leading chefs including Danny Millar and Ian Orr of the Great British Menu, Paula McIntyre, Simon Dougan and Noel McMeel. The initiative is just one way that Hospitality and Catering at the College are engaging with industry, with placements at Raymond Blanc’s two Michelin star resort and industry visits to Gleneagles and Claridges also enhancing staff and student skills and experience.

Across the country Neven Maguire’s workshops sell out almost as quickly as they are announced, and the College is delighted to bring such a prominent name in modern cooking to Londonderry as part of the City of Culture 2013. Tickets for the event cost £10 per person and must be booked in advance due to the high demand to watch this true masterchef at work in person. During his visit to the College Neven will also present certificates to graduating students from the professional Hospitality and catering programmes.

The event will be held in the state-of-the-art Bistro and Flying Clipper Restaurant at the Strand Road Campus (entrance via Asylum Road), on Thursday 7th March from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Tickets can be booked through Leyonia Davey on 028 7127 6101.
