Cement lorry overturns in busy NI town causing traffic chaos

A cement lorry has overturned on the main road through an NI town causing traffic chaos this afternoon.

Traffic is at a standstill in Gilford, Co Down where one eye witness said ‘there is cement everywhere’.

It appears the barrel holding the cement came off the lorry and is squashed against the lorry and a parked car.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Motorists are advised the junction of Dumbarton Street, Bridge Street and Banbridge Road in Gilford is currently closed due to a cement lorry shedding its load this afternoon. Drivers should seek alternative routes.”

DUP MP Carla Lockhart said: “Folks a cement lorry has overturned in Gilford on the Main Street. There is cement everywhere and traffic is building in all directions. Best to avoid the area!”

DUP Cllr Paul Greenfield said: “Traffic is building up in Gilford. Please avoid the area if possible.”
