‘Centre will continue work to put a stop to trouble’

A NEW community service is set to continue the hard work of local volunteers in its efforts to ease tensions and bring to an end anti-social trouble which has dogged Glengormley for decades.

The Queens Park Women’s Group has taken over a former shop unit in Portland Avenue.

During the day it will be used by the group for community work, but at night it will transform to become the 50/50 Drop In Centre for local youth.

The centre, which will open on Monday April 23, has a games room, a computer suite and a recreational area for young people to come together and forge lasting friendships.

Ina McTaggart, Chair of the Queens Park Women’s Group, explained the aim of the new centre.

“For the past few years and particularly in recent months we have been working hard to bring the young people in the area together to put an end to the trouble,” she told the Times.

“On St Patrick’s Day we had an event where everyone from both sides came together to celebrate and a lot of people were surprised at how well the day went.

“This new drop in centre is the next step in the progress we are making.”
