CEO of new ‘super council’ selected

The role of chief executive for the new Mid and East Antrim ‘super council’ – which will come in to being later this year – has been selected.

Although no official announcement has yet been made, the Larne Times understands that the local statutory transition committee – which is spearheading the reshuffle of local government in Larne, Ballymena and Carrickfergus – has offered the top job to Anne Donaghy, current CEO of Ballymena Borough Council.

We also understand that the current boss of Carrickfergus Borough Council, Sheila McClelland, has been selected as reserve choice for the role, should Mrs Donaghy turn down the position.

Elections to the new 11 councils will take place on 22 May 2014. At this stage the new councils will operate in ‘shadow form’ until they take over on 1 April 2015.

During this period it will be business as usual for the current 26 councils.
