CGS youngstersare kings of CastlewellanCastle for week

Everyone had a great time at Castlewellan Castle at the annual Coleraine Grammar School SU Summer Camp i n Castlewellan.

The Year 8 pupils were divided up into eight teams and joined the senior pupil leaders in a variey of adventures throughout the week.

They competed at the Camp Challenge, which was won by the Galapagos Penguins, Camp Contest, Dorm Inspection and Team Chants.

The day started with breakfast and quiet time before the Camp Challenge which involved netball, volleyball, hockey and tadpole.

The ever popular tuck shop came next before hobby time started. This involved football, rounders, board games, the games room or a run around the lake. After lunch pupils went on their afternoon activities.

Canoeing took place on the beautiful Castlewellan Lake which always seemed to end in an almighty water fight. The Activity Hike was in the Enchanted Forest where pupils could traverse the Walk of Doom, find their way around the Nightlne, fight the Wizards and try out their skipping skills in the Time Loop.

This was followed by a race around one of the biggest hedge mazes in the world. The Multiathlon included a trip to Newcastle, some ice cream and a game of Crazy Golf. The fourth activity involved a trip to Bloody Bridge to go Bouldering. Pupils scrambled, swam and climbed their way up the river before braving the jumps at the end.

The intrepid explorers returned to the Castle for a well earned dinner before choruses and a talk in the lounge. After this Camp Challenge would take place on some evenings or the Camp Contests.

The contests included an obstacle course, penalty shoot out, bucketball, over/under ball, the polo mint relay and other activities.

It was a fantastic week in beautiful surroundings and everyone agreed that it was a great way to make new friends before school starts at the end of August.
