Challenge for local crew

A TEAM of 17 to 20 year olds from Lisburn is in the running for a prestigious national award after impressing judges in the first round of Halifax’s Money for Life Challenge, a competition designed to inspire better money management skills.

The team of students from People 1st is now gearing up to go to the Northern Ireland final at Stormont in Belfast, on April 17 where they will showcase their Money for Life Challenge project called Game Crew Renew.

Since becoming one of 250 projects in the UK to receive a £500 grant in December, the team has put their project into action as money saving experts by helping students and families access gaming by creating a gaming library whereby games can be traded and rented to save money on the newest releases and by raising awareness that there are alternatives to buying new games.

Ricky Hunt, 20, from Game Crew Renew says: “Since being involved in the Money for Life Challenge I’ve gained a whole new awareness of money management and for the first time ever I’ve had to manage a budget.”

Game Crew Renew will be joining a shortlist of five Northern Ireland teams.
