Chamber backs Think Drink

THE Chamber of Commerce has voiced its support for the 'Drink Think' Project.

In a statement this week, Chamber CEO, Sinead McLaughlin said: "The Drink Think Project will bring informed awareness regarding alcohol related harm. It endeavours to integrate this into all facets of community, business, social and family life, create a climate of responsibility and partnership between the alcohol retail trade and community interests regarding the promotion, sale and use of alcohol.

One of the key values that this project holds is that this project is about culture and not just alcohol.

"Our members have made it clear that the alcohol culture in our city centre is one of the key areas that need to change. This can allow cultural development and investment in the city centre as we need to address the evening entertainment for all age groups" says Sinead McLaughlin, chief executive of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce.

"Alcohol has become a key factor in all entertainment and we feel that this Project will allow the city to benefit from greater awareness of the alcohol related harm to the community, businesses and tourism in the region. The Chamber of Commerce continues to be committed to the Civic Alcohol Forum and we signed up to the Charter of Commitment supporting the pursuit of safe and responsible approach to alcohol amongst all citizens in the Derry City Council area. Businesses in line with their Corporate Social Responsibility policies have a responsibility to promote alcohol harm awareness and we feel that as the leading Chamber of Commerce in this region we support this project".
