Changes ahead and new signs at road blackspot

Concern has been mounting over ongoing collisions at the junction and also with the added hazard of pedestrians walking along the dual-carriageway to the retail and leisure developments at Redlands.

Larne District Policing Partnership, which has been to the fore in trying to make this stretch of carriageway safer for all road-users, heard that officials from the Department of Regional Development Roads Service were taking concerns on board.

DPP vice-chair, Patricia McNeill, updated members that after a number of letters and meetings with Roads Service officials, changes were now being made.

“A ‘Stop’ sign has gone up and they are going to change the corner and allow pedestrians to walk up the side of the ramp and turn the corner.

“I asked the Roads Service for a diagram of the changes and a synopsis to show the DPP, but they would rather come and address the DPP on this,”” she said.

When asked by the Larne Times to clarify the changes, a spokesperson for the DRD said: “A scheme had been drawn up for a defined area for pedestrians to walk on which will not conflict with vehicle movement. Work will be starting in the near future.”

He added that the Give Way sign at the top of “the ramp” has now been replaced by a Stop sign “for safety reasons”.
