Changes to Hillhall Road closure plan

PLANS for road closures during a Watermain Improvement Programme on the Hillhall Road have been changed.

Work on the scheme, which forms part of an overall £3.5m investment in the Lisburn area, will still commence this Sunday, July 15.

However, the number of nights on which the road will be closed each week has increased from five to six and work will take place between the hours of 8pm and 6am each evening (Sunday through to Friday) over 16 weeks, in order to avoid disruption to weekday traffic flow. It was originally expected to continue until December.

Suggested diversion routes will be via Drumbeg/Ballyskeagh Road and these will be signposted. Access will also be maintained for residents at all times.

NI Water and its contractor Lagan Construction have been carrying out letter drops in directly affected areas to advise residents of this work which is being carried out after a number of bursts on the road in recent years.

A spokesperson said: “We would like to thank the residents and the travelling public in advance for their co-operation and patience during this essential improvement work.

“There is likely to be some traffic disruption in the area due to the road closure and increased traffic on other routes. There will also be some unavoidable construction noise as the work progresses along the road but we would like to assure customers that every effort will be made to keep disruption and noise to a minimum. All diversions will be clearly signposted.
