John Andrew Callaghan, (47), Moyraverty Court, Craigavon, admitted that on April 28 this year he obstructed a person in exercising of his powers of a search for drugs.

The court heard that on the Monbrief Road, where drugs had been located by police, Callaghan was seen to throw a blue item into the undergrowth.

The item turned out to be two blue latex gloves and the defendant said: “You’re going to do me for a glove falling out of my pocket?”

A police search later found cannabis in the area but this was not connected to the defendant.

A barrister representing the defendant said Callaghan had a bad record but he was trying to turn his life around.

He added that his client was also issued with a fixed penalty for littering on this occasion, which he had paid.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he would take into account there was no connection with the defendant to the cannabis find.
