Charged with series of burglaries

A 31-year-old man has been returned for trial to Craigavon Crown Court charged with a series of burglaries.

John Maughan, Birchdale Manor, Lurgan, appeared last Friday at a preliminary enquiry at the local court house.

He is charged with entering as a trespasser a house at Mullurg Drive, Portadown, on August 5 with intent to steal.

On the same date it is alleged that he stole a television, an I-pad and some money, to the total value of £1,870, from a house at Tannyoky Road, Tandragee.

He is further accused of the theft of tea sets, a gilt mirror, crystal glasses, a television and gents clothing and shoes from as house at Plantation Road, Bleary, on August 10, and the theft of the contents of a purse from a house at Avenue Road, Lurgan, on August 24.

Maughan was remanded on his own bail of £500 to appear for arraignment at Craigavon Crown Court on October 11.
