Charities boosted by Will Aid scheme

Carrickfergus residents are being encouraged to write a will this November as part of a charity scheme.

The initiative promotes the importance of making a will while raising funds for charities at the same time.

All the money donated is shared by nine of the UK’s best loved charities: ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (Northern Ireland).

The suggested donation is £95 for a single will, £150 for a pair of mirror wills.

Among those taking part in the scheme locally are Bernard Campbell & Co Solicitors on High Street.

According to the latest Will Aid research, 52 percent of adults do not have a will, meaning they have no say what happens to their estate after they die.

In addition, more than 9 million (39 percent) adults haven’t updated their will for 10 years or more and so these wills may no longer be fit for purpose.

Worryingly, those with no will who also have children under 18 will have no legally binding arrangements in place for care of those children should they die.

Those who wish to take advantage of the offer should make an appointment with a local Will Aid solicitor.
