Charity box stolen during overnight burglary at Moneymore shop

Mid Ulster MLA Sandra Overend has condemned a break-in at the newsagents in Moneymore during which a window was broken and a charity box stolen.

The Ulster Unionist Party member’s office is just doors away from the shop, which was targeted over Tuesday night.

She said: “I was appalled to learn that, overnight in Moneymore, a local shop was broken into.

“Not only that, but having broken a window to gain entry, the perpetrators went on to steal money which was being collected in the shop for a local charity.

“This shameful act has taken place in the mouth of Christmas, and – following a robbery at another local business recently – has left another businessman in the village to deal with the criminal actions of others.

“I ask that anyone with any information about the incident to contact the PSNI by calling 101.”
