Charity calls on Coleraine people to donate iconic fashion for runway show

War on Want NI is calling on people in Coleraine to raid their wardrobes and donate clothing for a unique fashion event.

The charity is seeking clothing from the last five decades for ‘50 Years of Fashion’, which will feature a runway show, market stalls and expert advice from Northern Ireland’s top stylists. Those who want to make a donation can drop it into the charity’s Coleraine shop (32 Railway Road).

Taking place at the Ulster Museum on Monday, September 26, the event is celebrating War on Want’s 50th anniversary and is aiming to raise funds for projects in Sub Saharan Africa.

Jackie Trainor, Head of Fundraising at War on Want NI is encouraging people to get involved saying: “This is a great opportunity to support our work in Africa and be part of our anniversary celebrations.

“We’ve already received some classic fashion items from the 1960’s to 2000’s but require more donations from the public to create the runway show and market stalls. We hope those who donate will also attend the event where they may see their outfit on the runway.”

Supporting the event, television presenter Pamela Ballantine, said: “Many of us have a few fashion statements hidden away in our homes and this is the perfect chance to put them to good use. The clothes donated will help create a wonderful fashion event and raise money for the work of Northern Ireland’s longest established charity, War on Want NI.”

The spectacular runway show managed by Style Academy, with hair by Toni and Guy, will reveal the changes in fashion of the last five decades. Guests also have the opportunity to browse through the market hall containing a huge range of clothing and accessories from the 60s up to the current season.
