They were joined on the finalleg of their ten-day journey by Roddensvale principal John Madden who is also a keen cyclist.

Preparations are currently underway for a ‘hilly 100’ 60-mile sportive cycle taking in Carnlough, Glencloy and Feystown on May 6.

It is hoped that this fundraiser, which is most suitable for experienced cyclists, will enable the purchase of further specialist equipment.

The principal explained that the therapy bike’s height can be adjusted for children and young people with complex physical needs.

“It works the muscles and is good for them, in terms of physiotherapy,” he added.

“These items offer so much for our young people. We need these specialist pieces of equipment.

“We are very grateful for this type of donation. We need additional funding from these charity events.

“The joy a young person gets from a therapy bike, you can’t put a cost on it.”

He explained that Roddensvale is now hoping to purchase a floor projector which costs £8,500 which he says will “maximise opportunities for play and social interaction”.

“There is considerable cost involved in supporting technology in the school. We need extra funds to support these things.

“We are very grateful to Raymond and Richard who have just taken on this cyclig sportive and hope it will be well supported this year.”

Speaking after last year’s event, Raymond said: “our main focus was the fundraising and that kept us going. “

To take part, cyclists should contact Roddensvale or see details on the school’s Facebook page.
