Charity launches new sensory room

Attending the launch was Ulster Unionist MLA Sam Gardiner.

The room has been kitted out with specialist sensory equipment including a bubble tube, fibre optic strands and star projector and will be piloted over the summer months by TinyLife Baby Sensory Therapist, Elaine Russell who will also provide baby massage as an integral part of the therapy session.

This service offers a therapeutic approach which is twofold to babies who are considered to be sensory impairment; addressing the individual sensory needs of each baby and also enhancing the bonding experience between parent/s and baby, an experience which is so often lost when baby spends prolonged periods in hospital.

The project has been a long term goal of the charity who already offer a wide range of support services to families of premature and sick babies including a hospital to home programme, dads support group and breast pump loan service.

TinyLife Chief Executive Officer, Alison McNulty said: “We are delighted to be opening a dedicated baby sensory room here at TinyLife. We feel that the room will enhance and complement our existing services offering parents and their babies an opportunity to relax and bond in a supportive environment. We hope that there are positive benefits for every baby who uses the room.”
