Charity ‘supermarket sweep’ for Luke

Londonderry man Philip McColgan was one of 37 lucky winners of the charity ‘Trolley Dash’ at Lidl stores across Northern Ireland in support of cancer charity Clic Sargent.

The ‘Trolley Dash’ took place on Saturday, December 12 in every Lidl store across Northern Ireland. As well as winning their Christmas shopping for free (the average of goods won per person totalled £250), each winner also contributed to the whopping £68,806 which was raised from ticket sales in just 2 short weeks in aid of Lidl’s charity partner, CLIC Sargent. A total of £6,662 was raised in County Londonderry alone.

Speaking about Lidl’s Christmas fundraising activity, Nadine Campbell, Area Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent, said: “We are delighted with Lidl’s fundraising activities in the run up to Christmas. The Trolley Dash alone has raised £68,806, which is a phenomenal amount of money. These vital funds will go a long way to helping with the costs of keeping our Home from Home’s in Belfast open as a free service to families who need to stay with their children during treatment. Thank you to all those who bought a ticket in support of CLIC Sargent.”

To enter the contest, customers purchased tickets for £1 at checkouts of 37 Lidl Northern Ireland stores nationwide from Monday, November 9 to Sunday, December 6. Winners were challenged to a ‘Supermarket Sweep’ style dash around Lidl to grab as much of their Christmas shopping as possible in just two minutes. 100 per cent of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Lidl’s charity partner, CLIC Sargent.

Sinead Flynn, CSR assistant with Lidl Northern Ireland, said: “We are thrilled with the result of our Christmas fundraising initiatives.”
