Charity ventures launched by Newbuildings businesswoman

A NEWBUILDINGS businesswoman has launched a fundraising bid to help boost the coffers of Foyle Hospice.

Struck by the dignity, respect and care afforded to her grandfather, who was a resident at Foyle Hospice prior to his death, Christine Kelly, proprietor of Pure and Simple, has undertaken a variety of fundraising events over the years to help various charities, but has now dedicated herself to raising as much as she can for Foyle Hospice.

The first of the two new ventures she has introduced is a morning coffee deal, where a portion of what customers pay for the ‘charity option’ of coffee and a scone, will go directly to Foyle Hospice. The second deal is part of the Bistro evening package, with proceeds from the corkage going directly to the charity.

Talking about what prompted her to take up the baton for the local charity, Christine said: ““My grandfather had cancer and was cared for at Foyle Hospice. He was one of their earliest cancer patients and the care he received was just incredible during the last few months of his life.

“The staff here all know someone who has had cancer, and while I the past I did a lot of different charity events for different charities, I decided that I wanted to do something permanent, which is why I have launched these two fundraising ventures,” said Christine.

Fundraiser for Foyle Hospice, Rachel Bruce, said: “Every donation truly makes a difference to patients at Foyle Hospice. A TENS Machine costs approximately £20. This is a vital piece of equipment that can provide a cancer patient with drug free pain relief and massage, giving them some comfort and easing their day. I would like to thank Christine and the Newbuildings community for their continued support in helping Foyle Hospice provide the care services to those in need in the North West region.”
