Charity watchdog to hold equality consultation event in Cookstown

The Commission, Northern Ireland’s charity regulator, will be hosting a panel discussion as part of the consultation on Wednesday 25 March 2015, from 2pm to 4.30pm at the Rural Community Network building, 38a Oldtown Street, Cookstown, BT80 8EF.

Anyone interested in taking part in the discussion and sharing their views on the Commission’s draft equality guidance, can book a place by contacting the Commission.

Frances McCandless, Chief Executive of the Commission, commented: “Our new equality guidance is aimed at helping charity trustees understand the intersection between charity and equality law, and how it impacts on them.

“However, before the guidance becomes final, we are calling on anyone interested to read it and share their views– is the guidance accessible and comprehensive, is there anything missing or unclear.

“While our consultation won’t impact on equality legislation itself, it is aimed at helping charities by ensuring the guidance suits their needs – and you can help us to get it right by taking part in our consultation.”

The Commission’s consultation on its draft equality guidance opened on Tuesday 3 February 2015 and will run for 12 weeks, closing at 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2015.

There are a number of ways participants can share their views on the guidance, which is available to download from the Commission’s website now www.charitycommissionni.org.uk The draft equality guidance was developed with the assistance of the Equality Commission for NI.
