Chef Brian ‘deli’ghted with artist Neil’s work

When Hillsborough artist Neil Shawcross called into the Deli Bar at Marks and Spencer’ Sprucefield, the last thing on his mind was the subject for another painting, but then Chef Brian McCord stepped out of the kitchen.

“He was wearing his chef’s uniform and hat, and he cut a very striking and dramatic figure”, said Neil, “I just knew immediately that he would make a great subject for one of my large portraits”

Brianagreed to a studio sitting. “It was an unforgettable experience.,” he said. . . “I’m really delighted with the result and feel honoured my portrait has been painted by such a distinguished and talented artist.”

M& S store manager Patrice Ashe said: “ We’re pleased to celebrate this unique combination of a valued member of our staff being painted by a very well-known customer. A highlight for us was the opportunity to put the painting on display in our foyer.”

The portrait will be exhibited in the Autumn at the Annual Royal Ulster Academy Exhibition in the Ulster Museum.”
