Cheque presentation to Royal Victoria Hospital

LAST Saturday UUP Councillor Jo-Anne Dobson and her son Mark were delighted to make a cheque presentation of £1000 to Professor Maurice Savage and Hazel Gibson from the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

Jo-Anne commented, “NIKPA host various events throughout the year to support kidney patients and their families. This year we were delighted that Anglo Beef Processors allowed us to be the chosen charity at their BBQ at Banbridge Rugby Club. Money raised enabled us to donate a cheque for £1000 and to pay for the pantomime.

“Mark and I were delighted to make the presentation during the Northern Ireland Kidney Patients’ Association (NIKPA) “Big Day Out” last Saturday.

“Every year the committee of NIKPA treat children with kidney problems and their families to a party and a special day. This year we decided to take them to the Grand Opera House to see Snow White.

“We hosted a party and 110 children and their parents attended prior to the pantomime. Before the show Mark and I were delighted to present the cheque.

“Mark was treated on numerous occasions at the renal unit so it was great for him to be involved with the presentation.

“We had the most amazing day. The party gave the children the opportunity to interact with their doctors, all three consultant nephrologists attended the party along with nurses. It was brilliant for the children to unwind with them away from the hospital environment.

“We handed each child a goody bag to take with them to watch the pantomime. The atmosphere was brilliant and the parents who attended told me that the children thoroughly enjoyed their day out.”

Jo-Anne concluded, “It’s occasions’ like this which make all the fundraising worthwhile.”
