Chess moves to the Forum

THIS year's Millennium Forum Youth Theatre Group production of Chess The Musical will be performed by an all-local cast for three public performances from Thursday 12th to Saturday 14th August at 7.30pm nightly. If you're a fan of musicals, this is one show you cannot afford to miss.

The collaborators on Chess are giants of music and musicals and they have created a complex rock opera that played to full Broadway houses and standing ovations. Based on the book by Richard Nelson, with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus from ABBA, no wonder Chess is still deemed as having one of the best musical scores ever written.

Here the ancient game becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, competitive gamesmanship, super power politics and international intrigues. A love triangle set amid the kings, queens and pawns of an international chess tournament in a cold war setting provides an interesting plot.

The Millennium Forum Youth Theatre Group is kindly supported by The National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Enkalon Foundation, Ernest Cook Trust, A&B and sponsored by the Tower Hotel and the Northern Bank. Don’t miss Chess The Musical at the Millennium Forum, Thursday 12th July to Saturday 14th August at 7.30pm and witness the culmination of three months of intensive rehearsals by the finest upcoming local talent. Tickets priced at 6.50 and 8.50 (concessions available, includes Development Donation) are currently on sale.
