Child abduction bid in Cullybackey reported

Parents have been urged to be on their guard after a reported attempt at child abduction in the village of Cullybackey at the weekend.

The call came from Mid & East Antrim Deputy Mayor, Cllr Timothy Gaston (TUV).

He said: “I was contacted by a parent who was deeply concerned after an approach was made to her child by a woman in a blue coloured car on Saturday evening in a Cullybackey housing estate.

“This woman attempted to lure the child away with chocolate, but fortunately the parent heard the gate open and went to investigate as the woman made a getaway.

“On talking with the PSNI I was advised there was a similar approach in Ballymena earlier that same day.

“This is an extremely worrying development, and I would urge all parents across the Borough to remain vigilant, and talk to their children about stranger danger.

“If anyone has any information or sees suspicious activity it is important that you contact the PSNI immediately.”
