Child rushed to Belfast hospital after crash in Castledawson

A child was one of four rushed to hospital after a crash on the Magherafelt Road, Castledawson, the NI Ambulance Service confirmed.

The Charity Air Ambulance was despatched as well as the NI Fire and Rescue Service to the crash on Monday morning.

It is understood one person was rescued using cutting equipment.

A spokesperson for the NI Ambulance Service said it received a 999 call at 07:42 on Monday following reports an RTC (Road Traffic Collision) in the Magherafelt Road area of Castledawson.

“NIAS despatched four Emergency Crews, a Doctor, an Officer to the scene and also tasked the Charity Air Ambulance, with HEMS crew on board, to the incident,” said the spokesperson.

“Following assessment and initial treatment one child was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Belfast by ambulance while another was taken to the Royal Hospital by ambulance. Another two patients were taken to Antrim Area Hospital by ambulance.”

Meanwhile the NIFRS confirmed one person was rescued from their vehicle by firefighters using cutting equipment

Inspector Johnstone said: “A report of the one-vehicle collision was received shortly after 7.45am on Monday, June 20.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have dashcam or other footage, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 324 of 20/06/22.”
