Children dice with death

TWO schoolboys diced with death this week when they casually walked along the railway line in Lurgan.

Neighbourhood police are extremely concerned about the incident involving two school children walking along the railway line close to Brownlow Terrace and Kilmaine Street.

Police on patrol noticed the two boys, both aged in their mid-teens, walking along the track shortly before 5pm on Monday.

Officers spoke to the boys and made Translink aware of the incident.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “We would ask that parents explain to their children the real and obvious dangers associated with type of activity before a tragedy occurs.”

Anyone who notices children on the railway track is asked to contact the police immediately.

A representative from Translink commented: “The health and safety of all our passengers and employees is of top priority at all times. We would appeal to the public to remind others in the community of the dangers of engaging in anti-social activity.

“Translink operate a cash reward scheme offering up to 1,000 to any member of the public who witness any incident of trespass, vandalism or assault against a member of staff and is prepared to give evidence in court, resulting in a conviction. We therefore encourage people to report incidents to the PSNI and the company.”
