The Kidzconnect event was the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, giving school council members the opportunity to come face to face with the Mayor and elected members. This gave them the opportunity to ask the pressing questions that they have always wanted to.

The young people took part in a number of workshops throughout the day including a ‘four corners’ walking debate regarding council services. Other workshops included how to stay safe online, planning an ideal summer scheme and designing and building a dream neighbourhood.

The Mayor, Cllr Thomas Hogg, attended the event and was questioned by the local pupils. He commented: “This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to have their say and put forward their ideas for their area. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with the children and I think a few of them may be after my job after hearing their ideas at the ‘if I was Mayor for the day I would...’ workshop.”
