Children think big on improvements

Taking part in the ‘Fresh Start’ project, a partnership between the Triax Neighbourhood Management Team and the Housing Executive’s Social Education Project were pupils from Fountain Primary School, Gaelscoil Eadain Mhoir, Long Tower Primary, Nazareth House Primary, St Eugene’s Primary, St John’s Primary and Holy Child Primary, who were involved in classroom talks, practical activities and a poster competition focusing on how they could help their communities.

In the poster competition, junior classes were asked to show the best things about where they lived, while senior classes were asked to highlight how they would improve their community.

Patrick Duddy, Social Education officer, said: “The posters were fantastic, with the kids showing a real understanding of the issue discussed in the school talks. Some of the ideas for improving their communities have also really revealed great imagination.”

Colm Barton, Triax development worker, said:“It is a privilege to help raise environmental awareness among children and see the enjoyment they get from it makes it.”
