CHILDREN’S CHARITY HIT BY THIEVES

VOLUNTEERS at a Ballyclare charity shop have made an impassioned plea for help from the local community after heartless thieves stole cash in a burglary at the premises over the weekend.

Low-life thieves cut a hole in the rear roof of Barnardo’s charity shop on Main Street sometime after the shop closed at 5pm on Sunday, July 22 and 8.15am the following morning.

They ransacked the store room and forced open the safe, taking a sum of cash before making their escape.

Store Manager Brenda Kernoghan said the theft had left the charity shop’s volunteers upset and devastated.

She said: “We may be a charity shop, but we are still a business and that money has to be recovered somehow.

“This was people’s money which was supposed to be going towards helping disadvantaged children who are in desperate need of help and support.

“I would just appeal to the community to continue to shop with us and to keeping donating to help us claw back some of the money stolen.”
