Chinese Cultural Event on at The Braid

MID-ANTRIM Museum staff are unleashing the dragon on Saturday, May 12 for an action-packed afternoon of spectacular Chinese cultural performances.

Beginning with a 16ft dragon dance and followed by traditional fan dance, martial arts and acrobatic performances and lion dance this specially commissioned show is a must-see. The show starts at 2pm and finishes at 3pm.

You can also find out about Chinese customs and traditions, past and present, and learn some basic Chinese from 3pm until 4pm. Meanwhile from 2pm until 4pm you are welcome to try your hand at Chinese Lantern-making and Calligraphy.

Facing painting and other Chinese inspired craft-making will also be on offer.

This celebratory event of all things Chinese launches Mid-Antrim Museum’s new exhibition ‘CHINA: Through the Lens of John Thomson 1868-1872’.

This internationally acclaimed photographic exhibition reveals a rare insight into 19th century Imperial China continues until Saturday 30 June.

Admission is free to both the exhibition and Saturday event.

The Chinese Cultural Event is on from 2-4pm in the museum atrium and Town Hall theatre.

The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday from 10am until 5pm and on Saturdays from 10am until 4pm.
