The Captains Table in Glengormley will be opening it’s doors on December 25 to provide Christmas dinner for elderly residents, as well as members of the community who may be spending the day alone.

The Carnmoney Road eatery can accommodate up to 60 people, with owner, Hilary Braniff hoping as many people as possible can come and share the meal with her family.

Hilary said: “It will be nice to share Christmas dinner with residents who might not have anyone to spend the day with.

“The idea came about when I started thinking about a few of our customers who would be alone on Christmas Day and I was going to ask them to come and share dinner with my family at ours. I then thought that seeing as we had the space at the restaurant, we should provide Christmas dinner for a lot more people.”

Hilary continued: “Since we decided to provide the dinner, we’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of people who have offered to help out, either in the Captains Table or providing lifts for people coming to share the dinner.

“We’ve also received generous donations of money, as well as drinks and goodies for the day.”

The turkey dinner will be provided free of charge to everyone in attendance, with everyone also receiving a goody bag.

The restaurant won’t be open to customers on the day.

Hilary added: “If you’re sitting on your own on Christmas Day, you’re welcome to come along from 2pm until 4pm and share dinner with us.”

If you would like to join them for dinner, call Hilary on 02890832265. For more details, check out the Captains Table Facebook page.
